Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids for Theodore Joseph Ferkinhoff, age 86, who passed away Sunday at his home. Rev. Steve Binsfeld, Rev. Ronald Weyrens and Rev. William Vos will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church. Sauk Rapids American Legion Post #254 will pray at 7:00 p.m., followed by St. Cloud VFW Post #428 at 7:15 p.m., and parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.

Ted was born to William & Cecilia Ferkinhoff in St. Cloud, MN. He attended St. Cloud Technical High School until enlisting in the US Navy where he proudly served on the USS Intrepid during WWII. Following an honorable discharge, he returned to St. Cloud, finished his high school graduation requirements and began working in the construction field. Later he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis to fully develop his carpentry skills.

On June 6, 1953 he and Kathleen Guck were united in marriage and together, raised six children while living in Sauk Rapids. From 1952 to 1968, Ted worked in the carpentry field around the St. Cloud area. In 1968 he made a career change from swinging a hammer to instructing others on how to do it. With some reservations, he became a carpentry teacher at St. Cloud Vocational School being one of the lead instructors on the annual house building project. Over his 22 years as an instructor, he passed along to students his passion for quality work and using common sense.

In his retirement, he enjoyed yard-work, chopping wood, harvesting maple syrup, reading (especially WWII & History), coffee with the "Morning Coffee Crew" at Coborn's, attending various grandchildren's activities, visiting family and friends, and an occasional casino run with Kathy.

Surviving Ted are his wife of 60 years, Kathy; his children, Jeff (Theresa), Dean (Delaine), Matt (Lynne), Jane Rudy (Jeff), Lynn Gerchy (Craig Sauer), and Ruth Dorival (Chris); ten grandchildren; brothers, Leo and Paul; and several sisters-in-law along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Marian, Bernadette and Dorothy.

Ted, you will be greatly missed -- till we meet again!

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Friday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Kathleen was born Oct. 29, 1932 to Leo & Anna (Schreder) Guck and grew up in Sauk Rapids graduating from Cathedral High School. She was united in marriage to Ted Ferkinhoff in 1953 and together they raised six children living in Sauk Rapids throughout their lives together. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and Catholic Aid. Ted and Kathy became hobby farmers in 1968, raising crops, chickens and beef cattle. Kathy was very involved in running the farm, managing the household, and tending to her huge garden. Many Saturday nights were spent socializing and dancing with friends. As the kids got older, Kathy developed a self-taught business recovering furniture and due to her business, she seemed to know most everyone in Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud. In her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, a little time at the casino, daily mass at the Poor Clares and an occasional cup of coffee at Coborn’s of course! Kathy will be remembered as a passionate person who loved her family and was so proud of all they’ve become and how they love one another.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years Ted; son-in-law, Jeff Rudy; brothers, Jerome, Eugene, Ervin and Dennis; and sisters, Arlene Ethan and Leone Jean Guck. She is survived by her children, Jeff (Theresa), Dean (Delaine), Matt (Lynne), Jane Rudy, Lynn (Craig) Sauer, and Ruth (Chris) Dorival; 10 grandchildren and 3+ great grandchildren. Other surviving family include her sisters, Jeanette Binsfeld, Mary Ann Esselman (Chuck Hanson) and Betty (Ron) Erickson; brother-in-law, Paul Ferkinhoff; as well as many nieces and nephews.

William T. Ferkinhoff, 81, 620 5th Ave, SE, a retired mechanic, died Monday. He was born June 8, 1887 in Oldenburg, Ind., and has lived here 55 years. He married Cecelia Tille at St. Augustine's Church Feb. 1, 1921.
He was a mechanic for Tenvoorde Motor Co. until retiring in 1952.
Mr. Ferkinhoff is survived by his widow; children, Mrs. Francis (Bernadette) Joyce, Dorothy and Leo, St. Cloud; Theodore, Sauk Rapids; and Paul, Burbank, Calif,; 22 grandchildren; brother, Edward, Minneapolis; sister, Mrs. Thereasa Weintraut, Waldron, Ind.; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Joseph, Ralph, Mrs. Evo Kiskner and Mrs. Genevieve Lamping, Oldenburg; and Mrs. Felicia Firsich, Batesville, Ind.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 622.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. Augustine's Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Cecelia Ferkinhoff was born May 4, 1900, in Rock Valley, Iowa, to John and Cornelia (Verlaan) Tille. She married William T. Ferkinhoff Feb. 1, 1921, in St. Augustine's Parish. She was a member of the parish and Christian Women.
Survivors include sons, Theodore, Sauk Rapids; Leo, St. Cloud; Paul, Burbank, Calif; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Nov. 25, 1968; daughters, Marion in 1941, Bernadette in 1971 and Dorothy in 1989; four brothers; three sisters; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were held last Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg for Mr. John Ferkenhoff 90, the oldest citizen of Oldenburg. He passed away at his home in Oldenburg on Saturday Sept. 15. He has been in failing health for 5 weeks.
Mr. Ferkenhoff was born in Iowa March 6, 1861. At the age of 2 years old he came here and was engaged in farming near Peppertown where he lived 50 years. He was united in marriage to Miss Magdalena Riedeman and the past 40 years were spent in Oldenburg. His wife preceded him in death several years ago. He lived with a daughter and Son-In-Law Mr. and Mrs. Ivo Kirschner.
Survivors include four sons and four daughters, William and Ed Ferkenhoff of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Ralph and Joe of Oldenburg, Mrs. Theresa Weintraut of Waldron, Indiana, Mrs. Euliala Kirschner and Mrs. Genevieve Lamping of Oldenburg, Mrs. Felecia Firsich of Batesville. He has 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Two daughters Josephine and Martha also preceded him in death.
Mr. Ferkenhoff was a faithful member of St. Joseph Mens Society and Holy Name Society. Rev. Charles Miller officiated at the Requiem Mass and at the burial in Holy Family Church Cemetery. M. C. Weigel was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
The community extends its sympathy to the bereaved children for the loss of the father. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. George Weintraut, Miss Mary Lamping and daughters, Helen and Matilda, Mr. William Shubert of Indianapolis, Mrs. Mayme Seller and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Weintraut, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Pollman, Mr. Charles Fischer, Mr. Carl Roell of Shelbyville, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Weintraut and family, Mrs. Freda Ricke, Frances and Amanda Weintraut, Mrs. Harry Brades, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Froeling of Waldron, Indiana, Mrs. Joe Schwier and son Joseph, Mr. and Mrs. John Brunswick, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Feie and son all of Cincinnati, Dr. and Mrs. Rupp, Mr. William Ferkenhoff of St. Cloud Minnesota, Private William J. Lamping of Fort Hood, Texas, and A. N. James Firsich of Pearl Harbor.
