    Thomas E. Fischer, 64, Shelbyville, died at 7:41 p.m. Monday, March 22, 1999, at W.S. Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
    Born July 17, 1934, in Shelby County, he was the son of Charles N. and Dorothy (Roell) Fischer, and his mother survives in Shelbyville. He married Shirley Hey on Oct. 23, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1989. He married Bess Headlee on Dec. 2, 1989, and she survives.
    He was a farmer. He lived his entire life in Shelby County. He was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus in Shelbyville, the Shelby R/C Modelers, the National Rifle Association, Varmets Club, and was a charter member of the Bears of Blue River Camping Club.
    In addition to his wife and mother; he is survived by three daughters, Melinda Hammitte of Greenfield, Karen Harter of St. Paul, and Lesa Brinson of Shelbyville; two stepsons, Mark Headlee of Greenfield and Matt Headlee of Fortville; one stepdaughter, Shari Enger of Fargo, N.D.; one sister, Libby Long of Shelbyville; three brothers, Nick Fischer and Mark Fischer, both of Shelbyville, and Jim Fischer of Waldron; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Landwerlen officiating.
    Burial will be at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery.
    Visitation will be 4-8 p.,. Thursday at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville.

    Also surviving are daughter, Karen Harter and Melinda Hammitte, both of St. Paul, and Lesa Brinson, Shelbyville; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and sister, Mildred Tungate and Betty Yanzer, both Shelbyville.
    Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carmony-Ewing Broadway Funeral Home with the Rev. David Schepf officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery.

    Services will be at 10 am Tuesday at St. Vincent Catholic Church for Charles N. Fischer, 74, R.R.6, Shelbyville. Mr. Fischer died at 5:30 pm Friday at Brookwood Hospital, Orlando, FL., following a lengthy illness.
    Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery, with the Rev. William Ernst officiating. Friends may call after 3 pm today at Carmony Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 pm. A lifelong Shelby County resident, farmer and seedman, Mr Fischer in 1938 founded the Fischer Seed Co. and was a pioneer in the hybrid see field. He was named World Corn King, the only person to capture the title six times, after which he judged many grain shows throughout the country. Mr. Fischer was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church, Indiana Crop Improvement Association and Varmints Club and was a former membrer of the Shelby County Merit Board. Born in Shelby County on Sept. 24, 1907, Mr. Fischer was a son of Frank H. and Elizabeth (Schaf) Fischer. On Sept. 19, 1933, he married Dorothy M. Roell, who survives.
    Also surviving are four sons and one daughter, Thomas E. Fischer, Mark C. Fischer, both of R.R.#6, Shelbyville; Mrs. Elizabeth "Libby" Hudson, R.R.#5 Shelbyville; Leonard "Nick" Fischer , Greenfield; and James E. Fischer, R.R. #1, Waldron.
    Other survivors are one sister and one brother, Mrs. John (Lillian) Pollman, R.R.#6 Shelbyville, and Carl F. Fischer, Shelbyville; 14 granchildren; and two great grandchildren. Two brothers preceded in death.

    Dorothy M. Fischer, 91, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
    Born Jan. 21, 1912, in Shelby County near Waldron, she was the daughter of Carl E. and Lora A. (Zobel) Roell. She married Charles N. Fischer on Sept. 19, 1933, and he precesed her in death on May 14, 1982.
    Survivors include two sons, James E. Fische of Waldron and Mark C. Fischer of Shelbyville; one daughter; ibby Long of SHelbyville; one sister, Helen Vogt of Shelbyville; 14 grandchildren, Melinda Hammitte, Karen Harter, Lisa Brinson, Charles Fischer, Nick Fischer, Debbie Dalley, Dee Samyn, Sherrie Burget, Greg Hudson, Bryan Fischer, Brad Fischer, Brittany Fischer, Crystal Edmiston and Susan Schweitzer; and 25 great-grandchildren.
    She also was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas E. Fischer and Leonard J. "Nick" Fischer; two brothers, Frank B. Roell and Edward Roell; and two sisters, Mildred Webster and Elizabeth Roell.
    Mrs. Fischer was a lifelong Shelby County resident.
    She and her husband founded C. N. Fischer & Sons, which later became Fischer Seeds Inc.
    Mrs. Fischer graduated from Shelbyville High School.
    She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, St. Anne's Altar Society and Town and Country Home Economics Club.
    Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Carmony-Ewing Broadway Street Funeral Home, 232 W. Broadway St.
    Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., with the Rev. John Fink officiating

    Services for Elmer E. Hey, 79, formerly of R.R. 5, Shelbyville, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical United Church of Christ. Mr. Hey, who had been a patient at the Heritage Manor for several months, died at 6:55 p.m. Saturday at Major Hospital. He had been seriously ill for one week.
    Friends may call at the Ewin Mortuary after 4:00 p.m. today and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the services. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Lloyd Werthmann will officiate at the services.
    In his early life, Mr. Hey had been a cabinetmaker at the former Albert Furniture Co., here. In later years he was self-employed. He belonged to the Evangelical United Church of Christ and its Golden Link Class.
    Born April 17, 1900 in Shelby County, a son of Daniel and Samantha (Shutt) Hey, he was married Sept. 12, 1926 to Nellie Platt, who died in July 1977.
    Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Betty) Yanzer, R.R. 5, Shelbyville, Mrs. Ancil (Mildred) Tungate, Shelbyville, and Mrs. Thomas (Shirley) Fischer, R.R. 6, Shelbyville; a brother, Cyrenus Hey, Shelbyville; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Beal, R.R. 5, Shelbyville,; and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.     DEATH FOLLOWS LONG ILLNESS

    Rites Monday Morning For Frank Henry Fischer

    Frank Henry Fischer, 70, passed away at his home seven miles southeast of Shelbyville near Prescott Thursday afternoon after a long illness. He had been an invalid for twenty years.
    The son of Bernard and Elizabeth Fischer, he was born in Shelby township April 19, 1876. His marriage to Elizabeth Schlaf took place forty-one years ago. Mrs. Fischer died on June 29, 1918. Mr. Fischer was also preceded in death by three children. He was a member of the St. Vincent Catholic Church.
    Surviving are five children, Charles and Carl Fischer, of near Prescott, Frank Fischer, U.S. Army, who has just arrived in the states from the South Pacific, Mrs. Lillian (John) Pollman, of Liberty township, Robert, of Louisville; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Weintraut, of Liberty township, Mrs. Mary Weintraut, of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Anna Neice, of Plainfield; and a brother, John Fischer, of near Fairland.
    Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the St. Vincent Catholic Church with the Rev. John Bankowski officiating. Burial will be made in the church cemetery in charge of Loren H.     FISHER FUNERAL

    The funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Fischer, who died at her home south of Prescott Saturday morning, was held this morning at the St. Vincent Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Ketter, the pastor, officiating. Many of the friends of the deceased called at her late home Sunday to pay their last respects and the floral tributes were very beautiful.     ELIZABETH FISHER CALLED IN DEATH
    Peritonitis Claims Young Matron Of Shelby Township-Known By Many

    Mrs. Elizabeth Fischer, wife of Frank Fischer, died at the home in Shelby township, one mile south of Prescott this morning at five thirty o'clock. She was aged thirty-six years and nine months and had spent her entire life as a resident of this county. Her death was caused from peritonitis.
    The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Schlaf of Prescott and was born in September of 1881. All of her younger life was spent in Prescott where she was born. She was married twelve years ago to Mr. Fisher and their life together had been ideal. Seven children were born to the union, five of whom survive the mother with the father, the young being only a week old Friday.
    The children surviving are Charles, Francis, Carl, Lillian, and Ray. She also leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Schaf and two brothers and five sisters. The brothers are John Schaf, of Shelby township, and Frank Schlaf of Springfield, Ohio. The sisters are Mrs. Harry Van Way of this city, Mrs. Louis Huffman of Indianapolis, Mrs. Henry Rehme, of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. L. W. Miller of Prescott, and Mrs. Bernard Randolph, of Indianapolis.
    Mrs. Fischer was a lovable Christian and since childhood had been a member of St. Vincent's Church east of this city. She was esteemed by her many friends and her death will cast a shadow of sorrow on everyone with whom she had became acquainted.

    Mr. Roell, who was elected in 1935, 1937 and 1939, served three terms as a state representive. He had lived in the Mount Pisgah neighborhood in Shelby County since 1908 and was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church.
    Born Dec. 6, 1885 in Oldenburg, a son of Balthasar and Elizabeth (Studer) Roell, he married on June 1, 1909, Lora A. Zobel, who died March 15, 1962.
    Surviving are four children, Mrs. Charles N. (Dorothy) Fischer, R. R. 6, Shelbyville, Mrs. Mildred Webster, Shelbyville, Mrs. Ray (Helen) Vogt, Fairfield, Ohio, and Frank B. Roell, R.R. 6, Shelbyville; and 12 grandchildre and 26 great grandchildren. A son, Edward, died in 1936 and a daughter, Elizabeth, died in infancy. Four brothers and a sister also preceded in death.
    Services will be at St. Vincent Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Joseph Laugel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Carmony Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. Friday and the Rosary will be recited there at 7:30 o'clock Friday evening.

    Mrs. Roell Dies At Home

    Rites Saturday for county native, 74

    Mrs. Carl E. (Lora A. ) Roell, 74, died at her home on the Blue Ridge Road three miles east of Shelbyville at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Roell had not been ill and death, attributed to complications, was unexpected.

    Mrs. Roell was born June 2, 1887, in Liberty Township, a daughter of Frank and Flora (Worland) Zobel. She was married to Carl E. Roell, a former Shelby County state representative, on Jun 1, 1909, and he survives with four children. Mrs. Charles N. (Dorothy) FIscher and Frank B. Roell, bothof R. R. 6, Shelbyville and Mrs. Mildrend Webster of Shelbyville and Mrs. Ray (Helen) Vogt of Hamilton, Ohio. Two children preceded in death.
    Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Frances Roell of R.R. 6 Shelbyville and Mrs. Ethel Thibo of Waldron, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
    Mrs. Roell was a member of the St. Vincent Catholic Church and an active member of St. Annes' Altar Society.
    Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent Church with Rev. Anthony Seger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Carmony Funeral Home in Shelbyville after 5:00 p.m. Saturday. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. (Shelbyville News, Mar 16, 1962 pg. 1)
