Fred Fischer, 77, widely known Shelby county farmer, died suddenly Saturday at 11:00 p.m. at his home near Waldron. Death was attributed by County Coroner Dr. James Tower to a coronary attack.
Born in Liberty township, January 12, 1882, Mr. Fischer was the son of Henry and Mary Katherine Fischer. He is survived by the widow, Marie Cecelia (Higgins) Fischer, to whom he was married April 24, 1912, and three children, Henry T. Fischer and Mrs. Rita Ann Thibo of Liberty township and Mrs. Rosemary Lindley of Frankfort. There are seven grandchildren and also surviving is a brother, John H. Fischer of Liberty township.
Mr. Fischer was a member of the St. Vincent Catholic Church and last rites will be held at the church Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Rev. A. H. Seger will officiate and burial, in charge of the Murphy Mortuary, will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 7:00 this evening. Services for Marie Cecelia Fischer, 100, who died Sunday at the Heritage House Convalescent Center where she'd been a resident, will be at 10 a. m. Wednesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Jhon Maung officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p. m. Tuesday at the Carmony-Ewing Broadway Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fischer, a 1911 graduate of Oldenburg Academy, had been a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A daughter of John T. and Rose Ellan (Dolan) Higgins, she was born July 15, 1888 in Shelby County. She was married April 24, 1912, to Frederick Fischer, who preceded her in death on April 25, 1959.
Surviving are a son, Henry T. Fischer, Waldron; daughters, Rosemary Lindley, Frankfort, and Mrs. Lloyd (Rita) Boring, Louisville, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. (Obit: The Shelbyville News, Jan. 8, 1989)

John Henry Fischer, one of the best known men in Liberty township, passed away this afternoon at 12:30 o'clock, of heart trouble, after an illness of several months. Mr. Fischer was well known as a experienced auctioneer in addition to his farming duties.
He was born in Oldenburg, Franklin county, September 22, 1846, making him at the time of death sixty-three years and two days of age. He married Miss Mary Tappe also of Oldenburg, who survives his sad demise. He removed to Shelby county in 1871, and has since resided in Liberty township.
In addition to the widow, he is survived by five children; Mrs. Mary Krug, of Chattanooga, Ten,; Mrs. Josephine Zinser, of Liberty township; Miss Agness, and Frederick and John Fischer, who live at home.
Funeral services will be held at St. Vincent's church, Monday morning at nine o'clock, at which time Father Ketter will say solemn high mass. The interment will be in the St. Vincent cemetery, M. G. Tindall in charge. (Obit: The Shelbyville Democrat, Sep. 24, 1909)

HEART DISEASE CAUSE OF DEATH

Mrs. Mary Catherine Fisher, Seventy-Eight Years of Age, Passes Away

Active In Catholic Church

Mrs. Mary Catherine Fisher, 78 years old, widow of Henry Fisher, died at 4:20 o'clock Saturday evening at her home, 136 East Broadway. Heart disease was the cause of her death, but until a few hours before she passed away her condition had not been though serious.
Mrs. Fisher was prominent in Catholic church activities, a member of the St Joseph Catholic church of this city and of the St. Anne Societies of this church and of St. Vincent's Catholic church. Her husband, who died about 21 years ago, was an auctioneer, well known throughout the county. At that time they lived near Waldron.
She was the daughter of William and Josephine Tebbie, and was born in Franklin county, March 29, 1852. She came to Shelby county 58 years ago, and had lived in Shelbyville for the last fourteen years. He marriage to Mr. Fisher took place on April 20, 1871.
Four of the eight children born to them survive: Mrs. John Zinser, Fred Fisher, and John Fisher, all of Liberty township, and Miss Agnes Fisher, at home. Mrs. Fisher also leaves two brothers and a sister: John Tebbie and Mrs. John Erthel, both of Tipton, Ind., and Joe Tebbie, of Franklin county. Eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock from the St. Joseph church, with Rev. John C. Rager, pastor of this church. Rev. Pleres Dixion, of St. Vincent's and Rev. Wolf, of Indianapolis, officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in St. Vincent's cemetery, in charge of C. F. Fix & Son. Friends may call at the home at any time until the hour for the funeral. One of the leading agriculturista and respresentative citizens of Shelby county, Indiana, is John Tilson Higgins, who was born here on July 12, 1855, the son of William E. and Mary (Wheeler) Higgins.
John Tilson Higgins received his education in the common schools of Shelby county, now known as the district schools. He went through all the grades and received a fairly good education for his opportunity, for he applied himself very carefully to his text-books. He remained on the old homestead, assisting with the work about the place until his marriage to Rose Dolan, a daughter of John E. Dolan and wife.
To Mr. and Mrs. John Tilson Higgins eleven children have been born, namely; the first and scond died in infancy; Richard Carter, born March 12, 1880, resides in Canada; Frank W., born January 12, 1882, married Victoria Weintraut; he is a salesman and is living in Virginia; Victor W. was born June 28, 1884; he is a scenic painter and lives in Chicago; Ambrose, born July 27, 1886, a graduate of the agricultural department of Purdue University, is living at home; Marie Cecelia, born July 15, 1888, is a teacher and is living at home; William Frederick, born January 27, 1890, is still a member of the family circle; Robert E., born October 2, 1891, died August 8, 1903; Teresa Portia, born March 17,1896, died March 15, 1909; John Tilson, Jr., born February 13, 1898.
After his marriage Mr. Higgins angaged in farming, which he had followed ever since in a most successful manner. He had always devoted considerable attention to stock raising, having a hobby for hogs, also the raising of fruit, and no small part of his yearly income is derived from these sources. He is a great breeder of Duroc hogs and always keeps some fine specimens of this variety. His model farm, one of the best in Shelby county, is located in section 6, Liberty township, being under a high state of improvement and well kept in every respect. He has a very attractive home, modern substantial and nicely furnished, also excellent bards and outbuildings; everything bout his place shows thrift and prosperity, and that a man of good judgment and progressive ideas has its management in hand; in short Mr. Higgins is one of the prominent men of Shelby county, being interested in whatever tends to promote the welfare of his fellowmen in this locality, and always ready to support all measures looking to the good of his fellow men. He is one of themost active workers in the Catholic church in this county, being a liberal supporter of the same. He has served on the Advisory Board of his township for two terms, and is now a member of the County Council. Mr. Higgins is a well read man, keeping abrest of the times in all matters and his conversation is enteraining. He and his family readily impress the stranger as being well educated and hositable. J. T. HIGGINS, 80, DIES NEAR HERE

John Tilson Higgins, aged eighty, well known Shelby county farmer, died at 7:20 o'clock Thursday evening at his home on the Cynthianna pike, two miles east of Mt. Pisgah. His death was due to complications of diseases incidental to his advanced age.
The son of William and Mary Higgins, the deceased was born July 12, 1855. He was married to Rose Dolan, Nov. 15, 1876, and she preceded him in death on October 2, 1931. Nine children were born to the union, six of whom survive. They are M. A. Higgins, at home, Frank, of Charlottesville, VA., Victor, of Taos, N. M., Fred, of Pittsburg, PA.; Mrs. Fred Fisher, of Shelby county, and John T. Jr., of Detroit, Mich.
He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Peter Fettig, of Connersville; twelve, grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mr. Higgins was a member of the St. Vincent church and funeral services will be held there Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock, the Rev. Bernard H. Reidford, pastor of the church will officiate. Rose Ellen Higgins, beloved wife of J. Tilson Higgins, passed away at her home on the Blue Ridge road, in Liberty township, at one o'clock Friday afternoon, after being seriously ill for eight months. Her death was due to a complication of diseases.
Funeral services will be conducted from the St. Vincent Catholic church at nine o'clock Monday morning. Requiem High Mass, with Rev. Pierce Dixon officiating. Burial, in charge of C. F. Fix & Son, will be in the family lot in the St. Vincent cemetery. Friends may call at the late home any time until the time of the funeral.
The deceased was the daughter of John and Cecilia Dolan, and was born in Jennings county, near Butlerville, Ind., August 11, 1855. At the time of death she was seventy-six years, one month and twenty-one days old. She was united in marriage with J. Tilson Higgins on November 15, 1876, at Columbus, Ind., and to this union were born eleven children, nine sons and two daughters. Five sons and a daughter survive. Two sons died in infancy and another son, Richard Carter, passed away November 14, 1930, in Canada.
One daughter, Portia, died twenty-two years ago, and Robert passed away twenty-five years ago. Those sons who survive the mother are Frank, of Charlottesville, VA., Victor, of Laos, NM.; Fred, of Pittsburg, PA.; John Tilson Jr., of Detroit, and Ambrose, at home. Mrs. Fred Fisher, the sister, of Liberty township, also survives. The deceased leaves twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a sister, Mrs. Agnes Mill, of Versailles, Ind., and a brother, Frank Dolan, of near Versailles.
Mr. and Mrs. Higgins had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary November 15, 1926. She was a lifelong member of the St. Vincent Catholic church and belonged to the Daughters of Isabella. She was a faithful attendant until her health failed. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and her death is a great loss to the community in which she lived.
