828 | The Greensburg Daily News 29 Aug 2008 ---------- Ryan Michael Fischer, 23 of Waldron, Indiana passed away on August 25, 2008 at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was born on December 8, 1984 in Indianapolis, Indiana, he is the son of William and Connie (Kelley) Fischer. He graduated in 2003 from Waldron Jr./Sr. High School. His love of cars inspired him to attend Wyotech College in Blairsville, Penn. There he received an associate degree in auto body repair. Following graduation, he became a skilled painter at Enneking Auto Body in Greensburg, Indiana. He loved to paint, rebuild and modify vehicles. He took a special interest in his Ford King Ranch pick-up and four-wheeling with his friends and family. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. An inspiration to all who knew him, he continuously raised awareness and put forth generous efforts to combat cancers of all kinds. In sum, he loved life. He is survived by his parents, William and Connie Fischer of Indianapolis; sister, Andrea (Andrew)(Fischer) Strehle of Indianapolis; niece, Lauren E. Strehle of Indianapolis; grandparents, Gaylord and Ruth McVey of Shelbyville and Harold and Alice Kelley of Fort Wayne and best friend and true love, Sirena L. Frazee of Shelbyville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Berniece Fischer. Visitation will be from 3 - 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 31 at the Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 South Harrison Street. A Rosary will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Mary Behnen, widow of Henry Behnen of 403 State street, died Tuesday evening in her home. She had been in poor health for more than a year, and death was caused by a complication of diseases. Mrs. Behnen, nee Upschulte, was born in Germany, May 17, 1869, and was 47 years old. She had lived in Quincy 45 years and was well and favorably known. She conducted the East Broadway hotel for twelve and one half years, but retired a year ago on account of her health. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic church up to a year ago, when she became a member of St. Francis church. She was also a member of the Woman's Catholic society of St. Francis church, and a member of Loyal Americans. She was a devoted and loving mother and made friends everywhere she went. Mrs. Behnen's husband died three years ago. She leaves two daughters, Catherine and Celia at home; and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Eben B. Chesley of Concord, N. H. She also leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Upschulte; one brother, Bernard Upschulte of Quincy; three sisters, Miss Anna Upschulte of Los Angles, Cal., Mrs. Catherine Otten and Mrs. Henry Oelrich, both of this city; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted in the family home, 403 State street, and in St. Boniface church Friday morning. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. The hour has not been definitely decided. 832 | Theodore Joseph Ferkinhoff, 86 Sauk Rapids March 18, 1927 ~ June 2, 2013 Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids for Theodore Joseph Ferkinhoff, age 86, who passed away Sunday at his home. Rev. Steve Binsfeld, Rev. Ronald Weyrens and Rev. William Vos will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church. Sauk Rapids American Legion Post #254 will pray at 7:00 p.m., followed by St. Cloud VFW Post #428 at 7:15 p.m., and parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids. Ted was born to William & Cecilia Ferkinhoff in St. Cloud, MN. He attended St. Cloud Technical High School until enlisting in the US Navy where he proudly served on the USS Intrepid during WWII. Following an honorable discharge, he returned to St. Cloud, finished his high school graduation requirements and began working in the construction field. Later he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis to fully develop his carpentry skills. On June 6, 1953 he and Kathleen Guck were united in marriage and together, raised six children while living in Sauk Rapids. From 1952 to 1968, Ted worked in the carpentry field around the St. Cloud area. In 1968 he made a career change from swinging a hammer to instructing others on how to do it. With some reservations, he became a carpentry teacher at St. Cloud Vocational School being one of the lead instructors on the annual house building project. Over his 22 years as an instructor, he passed along to students his passion for quality work and using common sense. In his retirement, he enjoyed yard-work, chopping wood, harvesting maple syrup, reading (especially WWII & History), coffee with the "Morning Coffee Crew" at Coborn's, attending various grandchildren's activities, visiting family and friends, and an occasional casino run with Kathy. Surviving Ted are his wife of 60 years, Kathy; his children, Jeff (Theresa), Dean (Delaine), Matt (Lynne), Jane Rudy (Jeff), Lynn Gerchy (Craig Sauer), and Ruth Dorival (Chris); ten grandchildren; brothers, Leo and Paul; and several sisters-in-law along with many nieces, nephews and friends. 833 | Thomas E. Fischer, 64, Shelbyville, died at 7:41 p.m. Monday, March 22, 1999, at W.S. Major Hospital in Shelbyville. Born July 17, 1934, in Shelby County, he was the son of Charles N. and Dorothy (Roell) Fischer, and his mother survives in Shelbyville. He married Shirley Hey on Oct. 23, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1989. He married Bess Headlee on Dec. 2, 1989, and she survives. He was a farmer. He lived his entire life in Shelby County. He was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus in Shelbyville, the Shelby R/C Modelers, the National Rifle Association, Varmets Club, and was a charter member of the Bears of Blue River Camping Club. In addition to his wife and mother; he is survived by three daughters, Melinda Hammitte of Greenfield, Karen Harter of St. Paul, and Lesa Brinson of Shelbyville; two stepsons, Mark Headlee of Greenfield and Matt Headlee of Fortville; one stepdaughter, Shari Enger of Fargo, N.D.; one sister, Libby Long of Shelbyville; three brothers, Nick Fischer and Mark Fischer, both of Shelbyville, and Jim Fischer of Waldron; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Landwerlen officiating. Burial will be at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.,.
